About this IDEA

After a first edition held against all odds in April 2014, despite the crisis that the city, the country and the region is living, Tripoli Film Festival – Lebanon is back again every year now, proudly carrying the same message of peace, tolerance and cultural resistance.

The Tripoli Film festival is a cinematic event conceived to ameliorate the image of the city with three main objectives:

 • Enriching our local cultural environment in Tripoli • Promoting the rich cultural heritage of Tripoli and its local artists. • Branding and Marketing Tripoli and its region as a highly promising tourist destination.

Why is this idea important?

The Tripoli Film Festival is organized by and for Tripoli citizens. Its primary goal is to contribute for a better access to culture… We are hoping that the third edition that will be held in April 2016, will convey our message that is transcending borders: the world is rich and beautiful, and Tripoli is a part of it...

This third edition is indeed a bigger challenge for our organizing committee and our city: we will be inviting more national and international filmmakers and we will have more international festival programmers and critics… For this edition of Tripoli Film Festival, we are commited with your support to carry on with the challenge of bringing up to the level the organization of such a prestigious and international event in our great and resilient city of Tripoli.

More about this idea

Each year we are receiving hundreds of great movies from around the world. Only few of them are shown during the festival days. Our main target is to have a permanent movie library in Tripoli one day, but its too early for that at this stage. For 2016, we are planning to have a yearly scheduled season of three major events parallel to the festival. Those events will showcase more good movies submitted to our festival, but out of competition.

What is the funding for?

The funding will mainly covers:

  • Local transportation Plan (free shuttles)
  • Part of the Advertising campaign
  • Part of the Printings matters
  • Technical logistics for Opening and Closing ceremonies
  • Technical logistics for outdoor screenings

About Elias Khlat

Born in Tripoli, Lebanon in 1965, I first established “Eklat” in 1987 when I was still a student in Advertising Design at BUC, Byblos campus (LAU). “Eklat” was supposed to be my personal corporate identity project for a university course requirment. And since that time, I began using it as my signature on my artistic work. “Eklat” was initially designed as a creative design house for printing materials and photography, before entering the world of advertising and media in 1990 with different partners. In 1993 “Eklat Pictures” entered the production scene and produced many of the first animation advertisements in the Middle East. The business was booming; we became one of the first postproduction houses in the country.

Business wise, that remit has grown over the years, from desktop publishing, photography and postproduction to include:

  • Public relations and cultural event organization.
  • Production of corporate films, documentaries, TV commercials and music videos.

In 2011, “Eklat Conseils” (communication & development) was born, with a new team of young and dynamic directors, cinematographers and technicians. Focusing on:

  • High-end documentary and corporate film production, I found this work remarkably rewarding… Being able to apply feature film production quality to TV, gives me a genuine sense of satisfaction as a filmmaker.
  • Cultural Events implementation, mainly the "Tripoli Film Festival - Lebanon".

Since its foundation, “Eklat” has chosen its address in Tripoli, the second largest city in Lebanon after Beirut. Tripoli is known for its cultural inheritance and for its promising economical future… For me Tripoli is not a simple address… it is Home.
