When a wadi village boy’s only refuge, a little video store burns down, he rediscovers the magic of life beyond the screen with a new friend.
The Wonderful Tale of Badr and the Great Najooma is a coming of age story set in an Arabian valley village. It tells the story of Badr, a young Arab boy and his quest to find a fallen star, the great najooma, to rid himself of a curse that has haunted him since birth. An epic tale of friendship, boyhood and hope, Badr’s quest to find the Najooma takes several unexpected turns and forces him to befriend the demons within himself.
We feel it is high time Arab filmmakers start having a say in how Arabs are portrayed in films. This film is a fantasy film set in an Arabian village. A unique take on a familiar setting. A story for both children and adults, this is a film that transcends age, race and gender. A universal story that will connect with the hearts and minds of viewers and take them back to a place in their childhood where they believed that anything was possible. We want to have the opportunity to present an Arab story written and produced by Arabs.
We plan to shoot our film in the mountainous border area between the UAE and Oman. The look and feel of the villages of this area have remained authentic and unique, and we want to capture the essence of these villages in our film.
In order to bring our vision to life in the way we intend it to, we need to source the best talent and the highest standard in filmmaking equipment. Your pledged contributions will assist in set, logistics, production equipment, recruitment of crew, and post-production.
It is important, when doing something you believe in, that you do it right. Our comittment to this story cannot be measured in numbers, but, in order to fully achieve our vision, we must give in to the numbers game.
By stretching our budget to $10,000 we will be able to fully satisfy our logistical, production and post production needs for our film. We cannot thank our supporters enough for getting us this far, and cannot wait to continue to exceed expectations.
Thank you all.
The Wonderful crew of The Wonderful Tale of Badr and the Great Najooma are dreamers themselves. Below are their dreams, below are their stories.
Mohamed Al Moosa, Director and Co-Writer. As a little Omani boy, Mohamed dreamed of changing the world. He now dreams of a jar of nutella in every household. Mohamed hates open doors and loves the idea of a chocolate swimming pool.
Rana Abd ElMoti Mohamed, Cinematographer and co-writer. An Egyptian who has lived in Dubai all her life, Rana grew up enchanted by Disney. She is adventerous and likes to believe that everything is possible. Rana sometimes comes across as super picky. She loves wildlife and the Discovery Channel.
Mansour Madani is the Producer and Co-Writer. Hailing from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mansour spent his childhood days fascinated with the sky. More recently, Mansour discovered the hubble telescope and spends his night searching for it. He hates hard questions and loves the simplicity of life.
Mohamed Dakroub, Production Designer and Editor. Known within the group as Mrs. Doubtfire. Mohamed our resident Lebanese dude dreams of headlining Tomorrowland, but wouldn't mind a gig at your niece's birthday party. He hates DOTA feeders and loves binging on Hardee's.
Rabab Atallah, Producer and Assistant Director. As a Lebanese toddler who grew up in the capital city of Abu Dhabi Rabab dreamed of taking names and bossing sets. These days she spends her time reading poetry while meditating. She is terrified of furbies and loves dealing with children.
This idea successfully reached its original goal and is aiming higher!
